On October 1, 1993,
the DOT HM-181 Performance-Oriented Packaging Standards became mandatory
for the Hazard Communication Standards. The standards require the use of
the DOT 4 x 4 Hazard Class Labels, which identify hazardous materials and
waste in the 172.101 Hazardous Materials Table. Since September 30, 1993
has come and gone, all hazardous materials and waste packaging must bear
the new marking and labeling information.
